Rathlin Island (2014)

I shot the following whilst visiting Rathlin Island back in 2014.  I was there ostensibly on business, representing Penguin Random House with our co-producers The Cartoon Saloon and Dog Ears for the award winning “Puffin Rock” children’s animated television series.  We went to Rathlin for the day to see the inspiration behind the series, the puffins. The hospitality we received and generosity of spirit we encountered at every turn on the island – and the fact that I got to experience it all with my Father as it was home, in Northern Ireland, was something that will stay with me always.

Later that same trip, I was also given the privilege to sit-in on The Ulster Orchestra’s recording of the soundtrack to “Puffin Rock” composed by the incredibly talented Einar Tönsberg at BBC Belfast’s Blackstaff House.  The experience moved me to tears as it took me back to my cello recitals that my (sadly departed) Mum would take me to.

This short combines all elements from that day and features my favourite track from the soundtrack, the achingly beautiful “Silky’s Dream World”.   With many thanks to all at Dog Ears, The Cartoon Saloon and Penguin Random House for the soundtrack.
